I'M A DOG | My First Story

On 11th April 2020, I was watching a web series and heard a word that hurt me and I was thinking about it. The same day I thought of writing something on it. So, I wrote my first story which is:

I’m a 78-year-old man. Relaxing on a bench of a park in my town with my pet dog. It’s a normal

day like other days. But today’s evening that same question I asked myself. “am I a dog?” you

can’t understand what I feel, but I can express it with my words.

I AM A DOG.

I remember when I was in fourth grade, my dad gives me and my little sister 1 rupee each.

We rushed to the nearest candy shop.

I asked for my favorite candy But she! She didn’t order anything cause of her favorite candy

costs 2 rupees. So, I returned my candy and bought chocolate for her.

I did nothing great after all she was my little sister.

And when we were adults.

There was this boy MR. PERFECT who dated her for a while. Well, I was happy for her. Why

wouldn’t I be... she was still my little sister.

But he is MR. PERFECT and I was not so perfect.

They began fighting. I interrupt them to stop but she pulled me... And I overheard something

that I shouldn’t have heard.

She’s shouting with all the energy she had and then she said something that I just couldn’t

ignore.

“ALL MEN ARE DOGS.”

I am a man so, am I a dog too?

I taught I was her big brother. I was wrong, but now I know what I am ‘all men are dog, so I am

a dog.’

As time passed by I got busier with my life.

One fine day a beautiful girl comes in my life and I thought my life is complete. I was in love

with her.

I drove to the opposite side of my usual way to home almost every day after my office to pick

her up and take her out for a coffee, movie, or something she’d like.

I remember paying bills every time and it really didn’t matter for me. Why would it?

She was the love of my life.

I remember that day we were watching a movie and there was some goon in this movie trying

to rape a girl. She whispered angrily and said…

“ALL MEN ARE DOGS.”

Does she mean I am not a man or she thinks that I am a dog too?

I thought she didn’t know she had never met my sister but here she was calling me a dog.

All those efforts of making her happy don’t change the fact that I am a dog. Well she was

right all men are dogs and I am a man that makes me a dog too.

We got married

We got married sir and blessed with a little baby girl. I was so happy when I touched her soft

tiny hands for the first time.

Her smile makes me feel like my life is heaven.

One day, we were just passing a car showroom and I saw my dream car which I always wanted

to buy.

I even had money why wouldn’t I. I was working double shift with no vacations at all for the last

five years but I didn’t buy that car, I know I am the father of a girl.

Now, who is growing so fast, that I had to think about her future as well?

I bought a big house so that she could have her own room. I was saving for her college fee

which would be quite a sum.

The day had come when she joined a college ‘my baby girl’ Finally my savings have paid off.

She was always out late for parties with friends and I was worried about her. Why wouldn’t I?

I remember it was quite late that day and she came home drunk all out of her senses.

I’m in the balcony and saw her, she was with a boy

Who is this boy?

And I saw him behaving like a swine with my baby girl and she slaps him

I was like that’s my girl that I was so proud of myself that I taught her well about what’s wrong

and what’s right,

But then I heard her saying the exact same words.

“ALL MEN ARE DOGS.”

Why? Why I did not teach her that all men are not dogs.

I was not that boy who broke up with my sister.

I was not that goon who tried to commit rape in that movie.

I was not that boy who misbehaved with my baby girl.

I may be a dog but I’m not like them they were not worthy of being called a dog they are

something else but definitely not a dog.

A dog is someone who sacrifices their favorite candy for you.

A dog is someone who was always by your side.

A dog is someone who respects you and cares for you.

A dog is someone who cuddles with you.

A dog is someone who gives away their own dreams that you can fly with yours.

If that’s what it takes to be a dog then “I am a Dog.”
